Steve and Dolores married after graduation and started a family - his three daughters Michele Montion Bryson (Joe Bryson), Angela Montion Hussey (Dan Hussey), Stephanie Montion Marquez and only son, Steve Christoffer Montion III. Five grandchildren, Chandler Steven Marquez, Noah Marquez, Sally Bryson, Sara Bryson and Sadie Bryson, would later join the bunch.
Steve worked for the railroad (Santa Fe, Southern Pacific and Union Pacific) for thirty five years and retired at the age of sixty. He spent fifteen years coaching his daughters in softball throughout California.
As a former high school basketball star, he spearheaded the CYO Saint Michael's Church basketball program where he not only coached his son on the basketball team for four years but then continued coaching for another five.
When his son showed interest in baseball, Steve pounded out his old coaching cleats and glove and became a successful baseball coach for five years.
For obvious reasons Steve was known as "Coach" but he could also be considered a mentor as he always had words of wisdom for his young players. In high school his son showed interest in golf - so of course Steve dusted off his old golf clubs and coached his son (a golf pro in Rancho Santa Fe, California) on the art of the eagle.
Steve was an active parishioner at Saint Michaels Church where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, as well as a Eucharistic Minister.
Steve will be horribly missed by his wife Dolores, whose relationship with him has spanned nearly fifty years, his three daughters, son, five grandchildren, his brother, David Montion, his sisters Renee Montion and Mary Martin and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Family and friends attended the Rosary at St. Michael's Catholic Church on Sunday, December 4, 2011. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Michael's on Monday, December 5, 2011.
