She was born August 21, 1921 in North Judson, Indiana. She grew up in Fort Wayne and graduated from Elmhurst High School in 1939.
On January 26, 1944 she was united in marriage to James D. Butts. They made their home in Lake Township, Allen County and later the couple moved to Fort Wayne. Her husband of 72 years, James, died December 3, 2016.
A full-time homemaker, she also worked 10 years for Sears-Roebuck service center, Fort Wayne.
She was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lake Twp. and the American Legion Post 47 auxiliary, Fort Wayne.
Active in her church, she made quilt tops and wheel chair bags with the lady’s church group. An avid bowler, she played in tournaments around the country. She enjoyed dancing, golfing and playing euchre.
She is survived by a son, Ronald E. (Marilyn) Butts, Leo-Cedarville and a daughter, Arlene (Terry) Stoll, Monrovia, IN; 3 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, John Ludetke.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 7914 W Cook Rd, Fort Wayne, IN. The visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City and 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at a later date in the Eel River Cemetery.
