From the day she jumped into our lives she drew near to share hearts w/us. She was my doppelganger. There is that one "kin" to us; synced to our souls; a trust offered from both sides. My Charmie-grrrl. I feel the shape of her head in the palm of my hand as if I'd stroked her just now. This memorial page is for Missy Charmin and all the cool critters who have shared our home and brightened so many of our days. If we've been in the least wise, we've learned from them. As the little boy comforting his parents on losing the family pet explained, "pets don't live as long as we do because they get Perfect quicker than people and get to go to Heaven sooner!" Some of our 'Perfects' are linked below.
Most days I sang her favorite song to my Charmie girl...
♫♪ Sugar, oh, honey, honey
You are my candy girl
And you got me wanting you
Honey, oh, sugar, sugar
You are my candy girl
And you got me wanting you ♪♫
Eskie Charmin Appears in Dog Fancy
May 1999: When Dog Fancy decided to do an article on senior dogs, they found Eskie Charmin's story on the Senior Dogs Project website. They contacted Charmin's mom and featured a photo of Charmie and her mom, and notes in their May 1999 issue: "Love extended her life," Charmin's mom says. "She had to give it as much as receive it to be happy. Dogs (indeed all pets) extend our lives if the truth be known." We commend Ellen Kanner, the author of "Turn Back Time", for the compassion expressed and information presented in her article.
"Many who have dedicated their life to love can tell us less about the subject than a child who lost his dog yesterday."
-- Thornton Wilder
"ANIMALS... in a world far older than ours, finished and complete, gifted with extensions of the senses we have lost or never attained, live by voices we shall never hear".
-- Henry Beston 1928
If it should be I grow frail and weak
And pain prevents my peaceful sleep,
Then will you do what must be done
For this - the last battle - can't be won.
You will be sad, I understand.
Selfishness might stay your hand.
But on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We've had so many happy years
That what's to come can hold no fears.
You wouldn't want me to suffer, so
When the time comes, please let me go.
Take me to where my needs they'll tend.
Only...stay with me until the end.
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you too will see
It is a kindness you do for me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I've been saved.
Do not grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do.
We've been so close, we two, these years...
Don't let your heart hold any tears.
