Pvt. Edward Newman (c. 1820-1886). A native of Saxony, Germany, Edward Newman emigrated to America, and became a baker in Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley. He enrolled for Civil War military service at Allentown on 23 October 1863, mustered in as a Private with Co. H, 47th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry on 26 October 1863, and was honorably discharged with his regiment at Charleston, South Carolina on 25 December 1865. A resident of the U.S. National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers in Dayton, Ohio, he passed away there on 22 January 1886, and was interred at the Dayton National Cemetery.
