William "Bill" Alexander Bone
WILLIAM A. BONE HUMORIST, DIES
William Alexander Bone, Peoria's well-known and beloved humorist formerly known as "Bill," died at 3:30 a. m today at his home at 320 Frye avenue, after an illness of several months.
Mr. Bone had probably spoken before more people than any other Peorian. He was noted for his subtle humor, and his homely bur sincere phraseology and his pleasant personality won for him countless friends.
On Lyccum Circuit
In the former years he was a popular entertainer and lecturer on the Chautauqua circuits in the summer months and on the Lyccum circuits in the winter months. In the interval between he conducted his own lecture and spoke frequently at schools and similar gatherings.
He was author of several books of poems and quite frequently used one of his own poems to make a point in a lecture he was presenting. He was also deeply interested in the life of Abraham Lincoln and studied his life at length.
Born in Rock Creek, Mr. Bone was the son of Eliphalet Landsdon and Itha Purviness Bone. He married Miss Florence D. Black in Petersburg on Sept. 16,1903.
He was a member of the Arcadia Avenue Presbyterian church and former member of the University club and of the Kiwanis club.
Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Isabel Bone Rix of Detroit, Mich.; one brother, Dr. John F. Bone of Peoria; and two grandchildren, Sharon Kay and Richard Bone Rix of Detroit.
Funeral service will be held at the chapel of the Gauss mortuary at 1 p. m. Thursday, with the Rev. E.L. Fernandes officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p. m. Rosehill cemetery in Petersburg. Friends may call at the mortuary after 3 p. m. Wednesday.
