TUPELO - Elizabeth "Goldie" Burgess, 85, died Tuesday, May 31, 2001, at the Tupelo Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born April 6, 1926, in Chattanooga, Tenn., to Jess and Maude Golden, but lived in Houston many years. She enjoyed crocheting and cooking and loved her animals. She attended South Jackson Street Church of Christ while in Houston, and then Mayfield Church of Christ after moving to Tupelo. She was a retired waitress and worked at Moore's Restaurant in Houston for many years.

Services will be held Thursday, June 2, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Southern Funeral Chapel with Brother Luskey Green officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Houlka with Southern Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include her daughter, Jacqui Letellier, of Tupelo; her nephew, George Thomas, and wife, Gena, of Pontotoc; one granddaughter, Sherry Larson, of Florida; her stepchildren, Rickey Burgess and Ronnie, Larry "Bubba" Burgess and Judy, John Burgess and Ruthie, Mickey Burgess, Zadie Bailey and George, and Bonnie Brown.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Burgess; one son, William Thomas; her sister, Olean Golden, and her brother, Paul Golden.

Visitation will be Thursday, from 1 p.m. until service time.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Tupelo-Lee Animal Shelter, 2400 Gloster St., Tupelo, MS 38801.
