Born 11 Jan 1814 Washington Co., Va., d 6 Feb 1894 Denton, Tex. He married on 16 Oct 1832 in Hawkins Co., Tenn., Louisa Mariah Davis, who was born 21 Aug 1812 Hanover Co., Va., died 17 Mar 1872 Denton, TX. She was the daughter of Dr. Thomas Davis (son of John Dabney Davis, a Rev. War soldier) and Mary Mitchell, natives of Hanover Co. Elkanah and Louisa first lived Hawkins Co. until 1836, at which time they moved to McMinn Co., Tenn. In 1838 they removed to Limestone Co., Ala., where Louisa's father had settled the year before. Elkanah was manager and overseer of a large plantation belonging to a Judge Lane. In 1851 they removed to Independence Co., Ark., where they purchased a large farm on the White river one mile from the town of Batesville. After the War Elkanah
suffered various financial reverses, and with his wife, one unmarried son and two married daughters and their families, they all finally settled in Denton Co., Tex. Their children were:
