Officer Ryan Bonaminio was shot and killed while involved in a foot pursuit in Fairmount Park at approximately 9:45 pm.

He had stopped a tractor trailer suspected of being involved in a hit-and-run accident a short time earlier. The driver of the vehicle fled from the vehicle into the park, with Officer Bonaminio in pursuit. A shootout ensued in the park in which Officer Bonaminio was struck at least once. The shooter returned the truck and fled the scene.

Responding officers heard the shots and located Officer Bonaminio. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his wounds a short time later.

Officer Bonaminio had served with the Riverside Police Department for four years.

RYAN PATRICK BONAMINIO Age 27, resident of Riverside, CA for 27 years, was killed in the line of duty on November 7, 2010. Ryan was born November 25, 1982 in Riverside, CA. He was a Police Officer with 4 years of service. He also served in the Army Reserves where he was in the Military Police Dept. for 8 years and earned the rank of Sgt. While in the service he was highly decorated with the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Reserve Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Army Reserve Overseas Training Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal and Expert Qualification Badge for the 9mm pistol. Ryan was a graduate of Ramona H.S. in 2001 and attended R.C.C. for 2 years. Ryan is survived by his parents, Joseph S. and Geraldine Y. Bonaminio of Riverside; brother, Christopher P. Bonaminio of Riverside; sister, Nicole E. Bonaminio of Riverside, CA. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Paul and Louise Bonaminio and Edward and Elizabeth O'Shea. Visitation Mon., 11/15, from 4-8pm with Funeral on Tues., 11/16, 10am, both at The Grove Community Church. Burial to follow Funeral at 1:00pm at Riverside National Cemetery.
