JOPLIN - Terry D. Ballard, 59, Joplin Route 8, died at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born Nov. 25, 1932, at Booker, Texas, he moved 10 years ago from Overland Park, Kansas to Joplin.
He earned bachelor and masters degrees in counseling at Pittsburg State University and served 12 years as a counselor and administrator in the public schools of Overland Park. The last 10 years, he was director of community services and support services ant the Ozark Center, Joplin.
He was president of the Four State Flycasting Club and past president of the Four State Bluegrass Music Association. Past president and co-founder of the Miami, Oklahoma Historical Society, he was a member of the Joplin Rotary Club.
Guitarist for several local musical groups, he was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his mother Ethyle Ballard, and two sisters Carol Boone, and Cherl Lauer.
Memorial services were scheduled at 10 a.m. today at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Phillip McClendon officiating.
Graveside rites will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Haviland, Kansas Cemetery.
The arrangements were made at the Parker Mortuary, Joplin, and the Fleener Funeral Home, Greensburg, Kansas.
Memorial contributions may be made, in care of the Fleener Funeral Home, 111 N. Main St. Greensburg, 67054, to the Barclay College Fund, Haviland, or the Haviland Public Library.
