A R Allen Rites Thursday: Arthur R. (R.V.) Allen, 50, of the Lawrence Switch Road, a Carman on the Illinois Central Railroad, died suddenly Tuesday at 4:45 P.M. at his home. Funeral services will be Thursday, at 2 P.M. from the chapel of Smith Funeral Home with Rev. John B. Underwood and Rev. Harold Watkins officiating. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens. Mr Allen was born Oct. 13, 1914 in Sardis, son of the late Arthur S. and Flora Valeria Yates Allen. He moved to Humboldt when he was 17 years of age and lived in Jackson for 25 years prior to moving to the present address in 1950. Mr. Allen was employed by the Illinois Central Railroad in 1942. He was a member of the Highland Heights Methodist Church and of the Brotherhood of Railway Carmen. He was married July 13, 1935, to the former Bernice Smith of Jackson, who survives him. Also surviving are two daughters, Joyce Allen and Janell Allen of the Lawrence Switch Road; a son Wayne Allen, of the Lawrence Switch Road; a brother Wesley Allen of Memphis and two sisters, Mrs. J. D. Harrison of Humboldt, and Mrs. Lonnie Hays of Costa Mesa, Calif. His body will be at the funeral home. Pallbearers to serve will be L. C Nolan, Chalmis Wright, Carl Melson, Woodrow McCord, Harvey Wyatt and Elmo Johnson.
