Rufus Milton Maxwell, 74, of Gatesville, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2008, at a Temple hospital. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, at Gatesville Funeral Home. There is no set visitation time. Friends can pay their respects from 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Rufus was born in Gatesville, Texas, to Milton Grover and Aletha (Hopson) Maxwell. He was always a very happy and outgoing person who loved to tell funny stories. Rufus was also a very giving person with a big heart and served in the U.S. Navy.
He was preceded in death by his father, Milton Grover Maxwell.
Rufus is survived by his wife, Becky Maxwell, of Temple; mother, Aletha Paul, of Gatesville; children, Cynthia Bonds, Milton Lee Maxwell, Dennis Young, Shelly Cagley and Luke Young; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Linda Maxwell Lee and Patricia Maxwell Keene, both of Corsicana; uncle, Clifford Maxwell, of Gatesville; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
