Edward graduated from Harvard with honors, Class of 1883, where he also excelled at football and crew and belonged to many clubs. He then attended Harvard Law School and looked to be headed toward a brilliant career before his diabetes weakened him and made him give up a full time career. He suffered more and more from the disease until his eventual death.
