Thomas "Bud" McDonald

Actor and Co-Founder. He appeared in several "Our Gang" episodes as Buddy. Some of these episodes include "School is Out", and "Teacher's Pet" in 1930. Bud began his acting career at age eight. In 1932 he appeared as an office boy in a Laurel and Hardy movie, "Seal Skins". He was also known for singing on a 1930's radio program called "Juvenile Review". Bud McDonald joined the Marines at the begining of World War II, but was disqualified from active duty. He joined the Los Angeles Police Department where he served as a police officer for four years. He left the LAPD because he had become an Alcoholic. Bud served time in prison where he attended AA meetings. When he was released he continued on with the Alcoholics Anonymous program, helping many alcoholics. In the 1960's, Bud and Judge Leon Emerson implemented a Court Card system that allowed offenders to attend AA meetings as part of their sentencing. The court card system has now been implemented Nationally. In the 1970's Bud and Judge Emerson co founded the Southern California Alcohol and Drug program. This program sponsors several Rehabilitation programs for men and women. It now serves approximately 3,000 people each year.
