Death: Dec. 19, 2010, USA

GREENSBORO, NC - Mr. Charles Harold Andrews Jr, Greensboro native, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 19th, at age 94.

He was a resident of Abbotswood at Irving Park and Vera Spring for the past 1 years since the death of his beloved wife, Edith Spencer Andrews, in June 2009.

Harold and Edith enjoyed sixty-seven years of marriage and celebrated many happy years of retirement at their beautiful lakeside home in Summerfield.

Harold was born on Oakland Avenue in 1916 in what was then Pomona next to the Lindley Nurseries, where he often played as a child.

In his teens Harold's family moved to Montclair, NJ, where he graduated from high school. He then attended The University of North Carolina before marrying and beginning a twenty-six year career with the Great American Insurance Company in New York City and Columbus, Ohio. Harold later worked for Improved Risk Mutuals in Rye, NY, and in 1972 opened a southern regional office, returning to Greensboro. He retired in 1978.

After retirement Harold and Edith traveled extensively and especially enjoyed Elder Hostel adventures and researching family history.

Harold and Edith raised their three children in Columbus, OH and Glen Ridge, NJ where they were quite active in Glen Ridge Congregational Church.

He has a surviving sister, Alice Andrews Fackert of South Lyons, MI. His children survive him; Edith Lynn Fisher (Roger) Toledo, OH; David Hunt Andrews (Janet) Cheshire, CT; and Charles Spencer Andrews (Susan) of Greensboro. Five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren celebrate the memory of their "Pop" and the many years of Easter and summer vacations with Pop and GG at the beach and at the lake.

Harold and Edith were active members of First Presbyterian Church where Harold's family has belonged for several generations. He was one of the last surviving members of First Presbyterian who were members when the sanctuary was located in what is now the Greensboro Historical Museum.

A memorial service was to be held at First Presbyterian Church at a future date.
