Ensign D. B. Ashcraft, USNR, was designated Naval Aviator #9618 in 1941. Entered active service via the pre-war Aviation Cadet (AVCAD) program.

Lt. (Junior Grade) Ashcraft died in the crash of his aircraft off the Southern Florida coast.

Dean was the youngest of three sons, and the first of the three to give his life in the service of his country.
