LT. JIMMIE BANKS LOST IN
FLIGHT OVER THE SEA
Mrs. Maud McCartney received a telegram Monday night stating that her youngest son, Lt. Jimmie Banks, had been killed in action. The details are scarce but the report is that he was flying alone in a plane about nine miles out at sea from the coast of California, off of Santa Barbara. He is reported to have radioed to his base that he was bailing out. No more was heard from him, although a strict search was made for him.
Jimmie was a very popular young man in the local high school, where he participated in all the activities of the school, as well as being a top student. This is the first fatal casualty directly from Collinsville, and the people of the community have a deep feeling of regret, and sympathy for the mother and other members of the family.
