SATSOP - Satsop resident Donald "Craig" Brown, 74, a retired Seattle firefighter and paramedic, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, at home. He had been battling brain cancer.

Mr. Brown was born July 1, 1930, in Los Angeles to Ruth Easterbrooks. When he was 6 months old, he was adopted by Flossie and Albert L. Brown. He graduated from Glendale High School, where he was outstanding at football, and attended a year of college before enlisting the Navy. He served in Korea.

On July 11, 1952, he married Beverly Woodward in San Diego. After his military service, the couple moved to Western Washington. She survives him at their home.

Mr. Brown worked as a mechanic for the Boeing Co., then for the Seattle Fire Department. He retired from the department in 1973, after sustaining a disabling ankle injury at a dock fire and began a retirement of boat building and antique car racing.

He was active on the Grays Harbor Fair Board and belonged to the Poulsbo Yacht Club, South Sound Sailing Society and the Golden Wheels Racing Association. In 2002, he was presented with the Golden Wheels Man of the Year Award.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Jenny Goeres and Carrie Teagle, both of Satsop; 10 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A graveside service honoring his life is scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, in the Satsop Cemetery.

Donations to Harbors Home Health & Hospice or Satsop School Dollars for Scholars will be welcome.

Arrangements are by the Whiteside Family Mortuary in Elma. Friends are invited to share memories at www.whitesidefamilymortuaries.com and sign the family's online guestbook.
