Mary Irene Carpenter, 80, New Albany, died Thursday morning, Nov. 13, 2008, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services in New Albany.
Born Feb. 15, 1928, in Georgetown, she was the daughter of the late George E. and Frances E. Hatfield Strahl.
She was a former employee of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Louisville, a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in New Albany, treasurer of the Social Club at Mark Elrod Towers, and an active former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Corydon.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Carpenter; three sisters, Sr. Catherine Mary Strahl, Anna Kintner and Frances Kimbrell; and three brothers, Carl, George and William Strahl.
Survivors include six children, Mike, Mark and Chuck Carpenter, Mary Briscoe, Terri Hoffman and Barbara Hamilton; a brother, Joseph Strahl; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral Mass: Monday, Nov. 17, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in New Albany with burial in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Corydon.
Arrangements: Generations Funeral Home in New Albany.
