Born in Jersey City, on June 3, 1939, he was raised there and in Summit before moving to Lyndhurst in 1973, and finally to Stanhope, NJ in 1991.
Don's distinguished railroad career began in 1956 with the Lackawanna Railroad. He transferred to the Erie Railroad in 1957. He worked as a Conductor and held various Union positions. In 1970, he was elected as Local Chairman representing Conductors and Trainman from the Erie side of the Erie-Lackawanna, while his Father represented the Conductors and Trainman from the Lackawanna side of the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad during the same time.
Don was elected to the position of General Chairman, United Transportation Union in 1986.
He retired from that position in 2003, and is remembered as a dedicated, honorable, great Union man who was proud of his many accomplishments and victories.
Don enjoyed selling things on Ebay, having garage sales, antiquing, and spending time with his family, friends, and his dogs.
He is predeceased by his first wife Patricia (Timmins) Bogen in 1991.
His loving wife of 17 years, Susan (Franz) Bogen of Stanhope, NJ survives him. His children Jamie Bogen Pizzano (& Greg) of Boonton Twp, NJ, Anne Bogen (& Robin Durfee) of Pembroke Pines, FL, Donald James Bogen III (& Sussy Valdez) of Lyndhurst, and Patricia Bogen Silver of Randolph, NJ also survive him. Don is also survived by 7 Grandchildren, his Brother Alfred Bogen of Austin, TX, his Sister Anne Burke Gimbel of East Stoudsburg, PA and many Nieces, Nephews & friends.
