SAN ANGELO — Frank Darwin Nichols, 79, left this earth for his heavenly home Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 21, in Johnson's Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Bryan Ross officiating. Interment will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.

Frank was born Nov. 11, 1926, to his parents, Fred and Jennie Moore Nichols in Gillespie County. He served in the United States Army in 1946 and 1947. On Aug. 8, 1948, he married Marjoria Davis in Santa Anna, Texas. Frank owned and operated Nichols Welding for many years. He also worked for the San Angelo Water Department as a licensed water treatment operator and retired from there in 1989.

Frank was a devoted husband and father and an awesome papaw. He has been a Christian since the age of 13 and is a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and a member of the San Angelo Masonic Lodge No. 570 and the Phil Head Lodge No. 1415 in Carlsbad. Frank was an avid fisherman and a loyal friend to many.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Jennie Nichols; one daughter, Barbara; two brothers, Lawrence and John Nichols; and one sister, Alice Allison.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Marjoria; two sons, Bobby Darwin Nichols, and Joe Allen Nichols and his wife, Renee; four grandchildren, one whom he raised, Sydonia Pechacek and her husband, Dan; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one sister, Sydonia Wilson; and three nieces.

Pallbearers for the service were all special friends in his life, and they are Leo Cauley, Ron Bruton, J.T. Hinson, Danny Ortiz, Leslie Thompson and Robert Stanley. The honorary pallbearers will be Perry Ray Henderson and Rusty Smith.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of San Angelo Community Day Surgery unit, Dr. Rahman and his staff. They would also like to thank the staff of VistaCare Hospice for all of their support and care. Words cannot express how grateful the family was to have had their support.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VistaCare Hospice, the Immanuel Baptist Building Fund or a favorite charity. - San Angelo Standard Times
