Robert Preston Bennett was born on July 24, 1912, in Soldiers Grove, WI, where he lived most of his life. He was the youngest child of Harvey and Lovica (Montgomery) Bennett.
Robert married Frances Martin on December 14, 1940, in Elkader, IA. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Robert's early career started as a carpenter. He retired at the age of 75 with 25 years of service to the Village of Soldiers Grove. He served his community as a volunteer firefighter for over 25 years. He loved gardening, working outdoors, hunting, playing Euchre, and visiting with friends and family.
He is survived by his wife, Frances; his children, Robert (Marianne) Bennett of Janesville, Sharon (Jim) Davidson of Janesville, Jerry (Lisa) Bennett of Verona, and Kathy (Dan) Sladek of McFarland; son-in-law, Bill Turnmire of Rockford, IL; 11 grandchildren: Bill (Dana) Turnmire, Vicki and Babbie Turnmire, Tina (Steve) Hulick, Tammy (Fred) Bradley, Tally Bennett, Rob (Jennifer) Davidson, Brittany and Brandon Bennett, Lauren and Colin Sladek; 14 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Janice Turnmire; 2 brothers; and 6 sisters.
