Funeral services for Lt. James Butler were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Masonic temple. Rev. F. A. Ruder gave the sermon. Services were in charge of the Lawrence H. Bertsch post of the American Legion and the Masonic lodge.
Burial was in Riverside cemetery. Members of the American Legion firing squad officiated at the cemetery.
The body arrived in Cambridge City Sunday and was taken to the home, 318 West Main Street. The body lay in state at the Masonic temple Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Lieutenant Butler died at Madigan General Hospital, Fort Lewis, Wash. In addition to survivors previously named he leaves a stepsister, Mrs. Harry Suter of Fullerton, Calif.

The funeral for Lt. James Butler yesterday afternoon was largely attended, and the remains were interred in the local cemetery, with military escort and firing squad. James had undergone two operations for gallstones, and died in an army hospital in the state of Washington.

Lt. James Butler Dies On West Coast
Word has been received here of the death of Lt. James B. Butler, prominent local businessman and former high school athlete. Lieutenant Butler, 36 years old, was awaiting an operation and an army discharge at Madigan General Hospital, Fort Lewis, Wash.
Lieutenant Butler was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Kiwanis club and proprietor of Butler's Cigar store here. He had served nearly three years in the Army Medical corps.
Survivors include the widow, Helen; two sons Thomas and David; one sister, Mrs. Harold Sanford, Elmhurst, Ill.
The body was brought to the Howard & Son Funeral home here.
