Haji Maritza Yepremian Astikian was married to Haji Nazaret Astikian, they had four children in Armenia. They immigrated to the America together along with nine other famiy members. She is my great, grandmother. She also was known as Ani.

Her name, Hadji Maritza Astikian, is documented on the ship's manifest dated 27 July 1912. The "d" was dropped as shown on her memorial. She used the name Mary after immigrating to the United States. Maritza Yepremian was born in Caesarea, Armenia.

The Ohio Historical Society Ohio Death Certificate Index ASTIKIAN, Haravato M.,Cuyahoga County, Volume #7870 Certificate #41772.

1st photo, Astikian and or Yepremian family members. Front row, Haji Maritza Yepremian is second from the right. Her husband Haji Nazaret Astikian is on her left. The identities of the others is unknown.

2nd photo, memorial at Knollwood, Mayfield Heights, Ohio. Haji Nazaret is not buried here. He is buried at Cedar Grove, Queens, New York. He died 1913. This is a very sentimental memorial placed by my grandfather, Yeprem Astikian for his parents.

3rd photo, Mount Ararat, Armenia. This is a historic and deeply significant mountain. It's where Noah's ark rested after the flood. I placed this photo because my great, grandparents were deeply religious. The prefix Haji denotes that they traveled to the Holy Land. It was so significant that they changed their names to commemorate their religious journey. As it was customary in those days, they would have had a cross tatooed to the inside of their wrists.

4th photo, Holy Land, Jerusalem, Israel, 1890.
