After James' death in 1900, Carrie made her way to Grawn, Michigan with her children.
As Frances' father, James died when she was only 5 years old, she grew up knowing her mother's second husband, Archie MacIntyre as a father figure and refered to him as dad/daddy.
Frances graduated from Traverse City High School in 1911 and Mt. Pleasant County Normal in 1913. On Christmas Eve 1917, Frances wed Elmer Youker at the Traverse City Evangelical United Brethren Church. She was a school teacher, serving many one room school houses throughout Grand Traverse County. Frances was a very accomplished seamstress and was a 4H leader for area children. She had one full sister, Dulcie Williams-Lutman, and four half siblings through her mother's first marriage.
Note: Elmer Youker and Bill Lutman (Dulcie's husband) were first cousins.
