John Parker was born in 1797 in Laurens County, South Carolina. The eldest son of Thomas and Frankey Parker, he was a farmer and married Balinda Youncy prior to 1827. John moved to the Lower Hominy valley just south of Asheville, North Carolina between 1845 and 1850. He passed away in 1863 and was buried in a cemetery on what is now the grounds if the Biltmore Estate. His grandson Joseph R. Parker stated the cemetery was on a hill, just across the French Broad River from the Western North Carolina Farmer's Market.
