West Point, Nebraska West Point Republican Newspaper:
Death of August Stark.
August Stark, a pioneer settler of this county, passed away at his home six miles northwest of this city, on Monday afternoon, March 1, from the effects of heart failure. He had been ailing somewhat for the past several seeks, but his condition was not alarming and his death was unexpected.
The deceased was born on November 4, 1844, in Pommern, Germany. At the age of eight years he came with his parents to America, first settling at Watertown, Wisconsin. There his youth was spent and at the age of nineteen years, in July 1863, he came to Nebraska, direct to Cuming county and took a homestead three years later on which he made his home and has lived ever since.
He was married on February 23, 1875 to Miss Caroline Brockman, this union was blessed with thirteen children, six of whom survive: Caroline and Louise at home, Mrs. Henry Ropers, Mrs August Liibe and August and Henry, all residing in this county. Besides the children, he is survived by his wife and a large number of near relatives.
Mr. Stark numbers among those early pioneers who faced the problem of developing the wilderness into its present state and he belongs to that sturdy type who could face all the difficulties confronting them with fortitude, faith in the future solved every problem. He understood the one important factor which would lead to success, and that was hard toil. Success could not fail Mr. Stark and in later years it came in far greater abundance than he had dreamed of. In his duties to his fellowmen and as a neighbor and friend he did all that could be expected.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon from the home to Rev. M. Leimer's church near Rock Creek. Interment was made in that cemetery. The Republican offers condolences to the bereaved family.
