Neva Jean Barnes

Neva was born in Troy, Ore., April 20, 1921, to Arthur (Mick) and Ada Mallory Courtney. She passed away Nov. 20, 2011.
Neva married Walter (Bud) Candler Jan. 19, 1941, in Lewiston. They had four children. They divorced in 1963. She married Robert Barnes Feb. 29, 1964. He passed away in October 1993.

Neva had her own restaurant, Neva's Place, in Asotin. She tended bar at the City Club in Lewiston and Moose Lodge in Clarkston for many years. She retired from CCI. She was a member of the Women of the Moose for more than 50 years. She loved growing flowers and was very proud of her roses. Neva loved to dance, crochet and work word puzzles. She would have loved to have had one more dance.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father and brothers Gale and Glen Courtney; and sister-in-law Micky Courtney.
Surviving are her brothers, Bill and Evelyn Courtney and Bob Courtney of Clarkston; daughter Patty Berry of Phoenix; sons Duane (Butch) and Lorraine Candler of Moscow, Geryl (Tad) Candler of Clarkston and Feryl (Punk) Candler of Riggins; five stepchildren, Val and Paula Barnes Mundell, Bob and Jerry Barnes, Karen Cambra and Judy Adams; 10 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her dear friend, Vivian Stewart, who was like a sister to her; and her many friends.

The family would like to thank Evergreen Estates and staff for giving her such loving care, also Dr. Mackay, Dr. Strobel and Tri-State Memorial Hospital for their wonderful care of her.

At Neva's request there will not be a funeral service. The family will have a memorial for her in the spring.
