CLEARWATER, Fla. - Otha V. Barbee, 86, formerly of Amarillo, died
Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001.

Memorial services will be in the First Baptist Church in Amarillo with
Chester O'Brien officiating. Private graveside services will be in
Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by N.S. Griggs & Sons
Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd.

Mr. Barbee was born in Jud and had been a resident of Amarillo since
1946. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He
was a graduate Howard Payne College in Brownwood and was inducted into
the school's hall of fame. He married Helen Joyner in 1939 in Spur. He
was a freight company manager in Amarillo for many years. He was a
longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Amarillo where he had
served as chairman of the board of deacons and as the superintendent
of the adult Sunday school department. He moved to Florida from
Amarillo in August.

Survivors include his wife of the home; a daughter, Suellen Stephens
of Phoenix; a son, Mark Barbee of Clearwater, Fla.; a sister, Iona
Sellers of Bronte; two brothers, Beraline Barbee of Bronte and E.G.
Barbee of Canton; two grandchildren, Stacia Warren of Amarillo and
Devon Bass.
