The Rev. Hubert Leslie Abel of 733 East College avenue, who had been in failing health for many years, passed away at 5:30 Wednesday morning at Passavant hospital.
The Rev. Abel was born April 4, 1881, in Glendale, Ky. In 1905, he was united in marriage to Sudie Embry at Sanora, Ky. He taught school in Kentucky for several years.
In 1937 he came to Jacksonville where he served as pastor of the Mt. Emory Baptist church. His last pastorate was in Bloomington, which he was forced to abandon because of poor health.
Surviving are his wife; two children, Mrs. Leonard Dunn, Kokomo, Ind., and John Hayes of Indianapolis, and one sister, Mrs. Henry Reynolds.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Friday afternoon at Mr. Emory Baptist church. The Rev. Mr. Herring of Bloomington will officiate, assisted by the Rev. A. V. Harris. Interment will be made in Diamond Grove cemetery.
The remains may be viewed at the Cody and Son Memorial Home.
