Ben Jr. was the oldest son. He loved school but after 8th grade he had to help his father farm. He was behind the plow at age 8. He loved his family. He and his sisters saved egg money to buy a wind up record player. They all had fun in that home. He was very close to his Mother Addie who died when Ben was 26 years old. Ben met his wife Myrtle during the Great Depression and the eloped in 1933. He took training as a Carpenter and worked on building barracks in WWII. By then he had two children Kay & Bennie. He worked long &hard to provide a good life for them.
He was devoted to his wife Myrtle and thought she was wonderful. He loved fishing so much. Many great fishing trips and working with the Boy Scouts at the First Church of the Nazarene. He served that church in many ways and was on the Board.
He was a Democrat, a life time member of the Carpenters Union and past President of the Home Builders Association.
He also was a home builder, building or remodeling many homes in Norman.
He eventually became an Electrical Inspector for the City of Norman until he retired.
Ben & Myrtle loved their home at 1309 Berry Road. Beautiful flowers and garden was their focus. In his retirement Ben loved to putter in his garage. He had many garage sales which were more about visiting with people than making money. Ben was a gentle man who loved people so much. His last big party was his 90th birthday. We miss him.
