Mary Alice Thorne Gifford Randall

Mary Alice passed away peascefully in her sleep on December 26, 2010 at the Crestwood Care Cewnter in Ogden, UT.

Mary Alice was born in Rockland, Idaho on April 18, 1918. Mom was the first of twelve children of Alee and Ida Mae Thorne. Mom finished the eighth grade in Jerome, ID. After her last child, she went on to Nursing School and received her degree as an LPN. Mom proudly worked as a nurse until retirement.

Mom married James Edward Gifford on July 6, 1935. Mom and Dad spent most of their married life in Jerome, ID, with some time in California. While in California Mom helped the war effort by serving as a welder helping to builds ships. She was one of those know as "Rosie the Riveters". Mom was very active in the LDS Church in which she held many positions. Mom and Dad had six children: Lee (Carolyn), Rexburg, ID, Alice (Roy) Buhler, Layton, UT, Jessie (Kathy) Brigham City, UT, Eddie (deceased) Don (Kathy) Provo, UT.

Mom was always busy with her "hand work" her love was doing Hardanger (har-DUN-ger). She was especially proud of the pieces that grace altars in several LDS temples. Each one took about 300 hours to complete. She also taught classes on this Persia, Asia, hardanger, later known as Norwegian art.

Of her eleven siblings she was preceded in death by Eugene, Jessie, Chester, Loretta. Surviving siblings: Naomi Myers, Mesa, AZ, Tiny Stircker, Mesa, AZ, Dale Mesa, AZ, John, Kimberly, ID, Parley, Buenavista, GA, Ron (Kay), Jerome, ID and LaVone (Charelett), Lebanon, TN.

Dad passed away on April 4, 1966. Mom, after being alone for four years, married Elliot E. Randall on Jan. 9, 1970. Elliot had four children all of whom are still living; David (Kerry) Randall, Jerome, ID, Douglas (Laura) Randall, Apple Valley, CA, Lynn (Carol) Randall, Salt Lake City, UT Bonnie (Gene) Williams, Imperial, CA. Mom joined these two families and made them one. Elliot passed away on Jan. 11, 2002. She is also survived by numerous grand, great, great-great and great-great-great grandchildren.
