He was widowed again and then married for a third time to widow Sophronia Spencer. Joseph was one of the first Justices of the Peace in Lamar County and witnessed many of the original land grants.
Joseph had three sons and a daughter by his first wife whom he married in North Carolina. None of their names are known except for his oldest son, Henry Perry Baker, named after Joseph's father Henry and Joseph's mother's maiden name of Perry. Henry followed his father to Texas and married Nancy Cornelison in Lamar County before moving south.
Joseph's second wife's name is also unknown though she was from Georgia. They had four children also, one daughter, E. Baker, and three sons, Joseph Lafayette, Robert Perry, and Jonathan Calhoun Clay Baker.
Joseph had no children by Sophronia Spencer.
