Rachel Franzsafel came to America in 1861 from Germany. She married Charles C. Buck on Agust 12th, 1862. They owned a farm in Franklin Township, and together they had eight children; Ella, Carrie, James, William, Fritz, Frank, Peter and John.
I believe Rachel is buried next to Charles, although there is no identifying grave marker.
When Charles was too ill to farm, (he had dysentery from having slept on wet camp grounds and drinking bad water while he served in the Civil War) Rachel would make him some ginger tea with a few drops of opium mixed in as per the doctors orders.
After Charles' death, she moved to the Flemington area and lived with her married son Fritz. Proof is the 1900 Census which has her living in the western part of Raritan Township.
Upon her husbands death, she received an Army pension of $12 per month.
