He lived through the great depression on his family's farm to Idaho and completed the 10th grade of where high school before he had to help the family by working.
During WWII he met Katherine McDougall from Ducktown, TN. They were married October 17, 1943. They moved to Jacksonville, FL where Harold built Liberty Ships for the war. During this time their first child, Jane, was born. After the war they moved to Mount Holly, NC and raised five children. In addition to Jane they had a son, Ron, and daughters Patty, Cathy, and Marsha.
Harold owned his own construction company and built many homes around Mount Holly. In 1960 Harold and his family moved west to Idaho where he worked on Minute Man missile silos. They eventually settled in Garland, Utah. Harold went to work Thiokol as a construction worker and later as a senior civil engineer. During his time at Thiokol he was presented with many awards for outstanding work on the facilities required to produce most of the solid fuel rocket boosters produced by Thiokol, including those used by the space shuttle. After 21 years at Thiokol he retired.
He continued to stay active as a member of the Garland City Council where he put his engineering expertise to work on repaving city streets and implementing a new water system for the city.
He is survived by his five children, 12 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 15, 2001, 1 p.m. at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, Tremonton. Friends may call Wed. Nov. 14 from 6-8 p.m. and 11:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
