Jesse Carter was the son of Baynes and Martha (Unknown) Carter. He married Elizabeth Philpott on 25 May 1795 and served as Captain, War of 1812.

This line of Carters goes back to Thomas Carter (first record 1713) Goochland County, VA -- and possibly earlier in Colonial VA (Henrico and Goochland Counties).

Jesse Carter's father, Baynes Carter, fought in Dunmore's War and signed the Oath of Allegiance in Henry County, VA.
