EARL JACKSON AKER, age 95 of Route 3, Wytheville, Virginia, the Piney Community, died Sunday, February 18, 2001 in Edgemont. He was born in Wythe County, the son of the late James W. and Paige Frye Aker. He was retired from the New Jersey Zinc Company a US Army veteran of World War II. Mr Aker was a faithful member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church since the 1930's where he served as superintendent, trustee, chairman of board and song leader. He was preceded in death by three sisters O. Zelma Jones, Mabel Porter and Nannie Shipwash, and two brothers - Sam and Luther Aker. He is survived by: a brother - Dennis Aker of Rout 3, Wytheville; fifteen nieces and nephews - Paige Younger, Beulah Spraker, Dorothy Poole, Pauline Williams, Ray Porter, Mildred Mabe, Peggy Stone, Joyce Dickson, John Porter, Edsel Jones, Sherry Geiger, Joe Aker, Judy Groff, Janey Allen, Susan Wright; sister-in-law - Irene Matthews of Route 3, Wytheville.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 21, 2001, at 2:00 p.m. at the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joe Carrico officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. The body will be taken to the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church where the family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday or at the residence of Beulah Spraker at any time. The family suggests that those who prefer may make memorials to the Mt. Zion building fund. Burnett Funeral Home in Wytheville, Virginia is in charge of arrangements.
