James Edward “Ed” Brown, age 80, passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at AnMed Health Medical Center.
Born in Lockhart, SC on April 9, 1934, Ed was a son of the late James Troy Brown, Sr. and the late Hester Sue Grant Brown. He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and earned a Master’s degree from Converse College. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. He retired from coaching golf and girls’ basketball and teaching at T.L. Hanna High School following a 30 year career. He was a former teacher with Belton High School. Ed was heavily involved as a high school football referee, Director of the Anderson County Junior Golf Association, was instrumental in developing girls’ golf in South Carolina high schools and was a lifetime member of AnMed Health Auxillary. In 2012, Ed was inducted into the T.L. Hanna Athletic Hall of Fame. He was a faithful member of Concord Baptist Church for 49 years, where he served as Deacon and Sunday school teacher.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Sheila King Brown; two loving daughters, Susi Brown and Katy Glymph and her husband, David; three grandchildren, Luke, Hope, and James Glymph; a brother Jim Brown and a sister, Gladys Crawford. In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by a sister, Glenda Knox.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Concord Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Don Cox and Rev. Bob Marcaurelle officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends on Friday, December 26, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Concord Baptist Church.
The family is at the residence.
