Mr. James G. "Jay Gold" Altman, 76, passed away Sunday, October 16, 2011 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born September 1, 1935, in Johnsonville, he was the son of the late L. M. Altman and the late Lillie Williams Altman. Mr. Altman was a graduate of Johnsonville High School and and retired from Tupperware in Hemingway as a buyer for the tool crib. He served in the United States Army and the National Guard.

Mr. Altman attended Little Star FWB Church and loved to work in his garden, fish, and drive his tractor. He was a lifelong member of Little Bethel FWB Church where he served as deacon, church treasurer, and in many other capacities over the years.

Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Ruby Frye Altman of the home; son, Jakey (Iris) Altman of Johnsonville, daughter Jean (Jasper) McKenzie of Lake City, and son Jamie (Robin) Altman of Johnsonville; grandchildren, Brent Prosser, Brooke (Matt) Creel, Drew Altman, Erin Altman, Tonya (Scott) Stone, and Danielle (Brad) Mincey; great grandchildren, Hunter Elizabeth Stone, Cole Stone, Savannah Mincey, and Tate Mincey; and sisters, Jennie Mae Johnson, Pearline Tanner, and Miriam (S. W.) Taylor.

Funeral services, conducted by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway, will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at Little Star FWB Church. Interment will follow in the Power Durant Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, October 18, 2011, from 6:00 PM 8:00 PM.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. James Smith and the McLeod Hospice team.
