Birth: Nov. 2, 1926
Death: Oct. 2, 2013

Charles Dantzler "Dan" Albergotti, Jr., 86, died on Wednesday, October 2, 2013. Mr. Albergotti was born in St. Matthews, SC, a son of the late Charles Dantzler Albergotti, Sr. and Blanche Amaker Albergotti.

He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 35 years, Margaret Morrow Albergotti of Sumter, SC.

Dan attended Clemson University for 2 years and then was accepted into Officers Training School and served as 2nd Lt. in World War II, stationed in Germany. Upon returning from WWII, he changed majors and attended and graduated from the University of SC with a degree in Business. He worked at the State government in Columbia for several years and then returned to St. Matthews, where he took over Calhoun Pecan Company, his father's pecan shelling business, due to his father's early death. Dan and his brother successfully ran this seasonal business, and Dan also sold insurance from 1953-1968. He sold Calhoun Pecan Company in 1968 to Young Pecan Company, where he served as Vice President until his retirement in 1998.

After retirement, Dan organized and led a Group Tour Business called Mardan Tours, which took groups on tours all over the country for several years. Dan and his family were long-time members of St. Paul United Methodist Church in St. Matthews and Central United Methodist Church in Florence. During his lifetime, Dan served as a Sunday school teacher in both churches and served in leadership roles in several organizations, including Manager of the Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce, Governor of the local and regional Kiwanis Club, founder and President of the Golden "K" Kiwanis Club. He built, maintained, and enjoyed, with his family and friends, a lake cottage on Taw Caw Creek at Santee, which provided for his children and extended family members many great water skiing experiences and lots of happy memories. He had a great interest in genealogy and even traveled to Italy to meet descendants of the original Albergotti family that came to America in the 1700's. It was his delight to treat his wife, 3 children and 2 grandchildren to a trip to Disney World in 1990. Dan was an immaculate yard keeper at his home and was a fan of his wife's good cooking and pulling for the Clemson Tigers.

Surviving are his daughters, Martha Morrow Albergotti and Mary Blanche A. (Julian B) Fowler, both of Florence, SC; his son, Charles Dantzler (Holly) Albergotti, III of Conway, SC; two grandchildren, Jonathan Dantzler Shugart and Ginny Lynn S. Brown; a great grandson, Grayson Scott Brown; a brother, Thomas Amaker Albergotti of Orangeburg, SC; a brother in law, Dr. Maurince Bernard Morrow of Gaffney, SC; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, on Friday, October 4, 2013, in the mausoleum chapel at Mount Hope Cemetery in Florence, directed by Cain Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service.

Memorials may be made to the Florence Golden " K" Kiwanis Club, c/o Gene Whisnant, 1321 Berkely Ave., Florence, SC 29505 or to Central United Methodist Church, 225 W. Cheves Street, Florence, SC 29506.
