Corporal James Adkins was living in Chapman, KS when he entered the service and was a member of Headquarters Detachment, 74th Ordnance Company, 74th Ordinance Battalion, U.S. Army.

On December 15, 1951, he was killed in a vehicular accident near Seoul, South Korea.

He was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal
