Viola "Vi" Marie (Wendel) Ahlers, 96, of Fort Recovery, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at Briarwood Village in Coldwater, Ohio.
She was born on November 23, 1926, in Fort Recovery, to the late Leo and Regina (Post) Wendel.
In addition to her parents, Vi was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley A. Ahlers, whom she married on May 3, 1947, and who passed away on April 29, 2015; her son, Dennis Ahlers; her granddaughter, Jackie Ahlers; and her sister and brother-in-law, Luella (John) Jutte.
Vi is survived by her children, Dan (Verna) Ahlers of Coldwater, Ohio, Elaine (Rex) Harris of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Bill (Deb) Ahlers of Lebanon, Ohio, Bob (Peg) Ahlers of Vandalia, Ohio, Denise Long of Vandalia, Ohio, and Steve (Cindy) Ahlers of Vandalia, Ohio; and her 15 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
Vi drove school bus for Fort Recovery Schools and Cheryl Ann for many years. She also worked at West Elementary in the Cafeteria. Vi was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, where she was a former choir member and a member of the Ladies Sodality. Family was the most important thing to Vi. She loved supporting her grandchildren and watching them grow up. Vi was known for her large garden, which she enjoyed tending too.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 AM on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at St. Peter Catholic Church, St. Peter, Ohio, with Father Joseph Pasala celebrating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
