He was born in Scotland, replanted by Edward I to Ireland and moved to the Virginia in 1728, with his family. His wife was Elizabeth Campbell, he had sons George and William and several daughters. He bought land in the Beverly colony. Both his sons were soldiers inthe American Revolution, and they have extended his family to including thousands of desendants.
