Wed. May 10, 2017. Thank U to my precious friend, M. Richards, F-A-G member, 13 yrs., 7 mo. & 25 days. ID# 46590027, for sponsoring my Mother, Emma (Kiser), Pennington. God's blessings always to U & your loved ones dear Mary. ~ Mom of T.L.T. ** F-A-G member: 8yrs., 8 mo. & 25 days.
My Mom. Born on a Friday. Died on a Sunday, 10:00 AM, in bed, at Woodridge Health Facility in Fairfield, Ohio, at age: 87 years, 8 months & 14 days, of Pancreatic Cancer. (On Mon., May 23, 2078, Emma will be deceased the same amount of time that she lived.) By her side, reading from the Holy Bible to her, all the night before she passed, was her Granddaughter, Raveena. The morning of her passing, from Ashland, Ohio, to also be by her side, was her granddaughter, Wonona L. (Jervis), Sackett, age 47 & her daughter, (Mom's great granddaughter), Laura L. Sackett, age: 27.
BORN: Mary Emmaline Kiser. Emma was the first born of four siblings, (2 daughters & 2 sons), to Thomas Kiser & Eva (Gresham), Kiser. Her parents were married four years before she was born. She proceeded them all in death. Her only sister, Ruby (Kiser), Page & husband Ed Page has not yet been found on "Find A Grave."
Emma married only once in her life, to a Corbin E. Pennington & it was his only marriage also. They married on Sun., July 09, 1922 in the home of his parents in Arno, Virginia. Emma's Age: 19, Corbin's Age: 22. They had five children in this union & after 24+ years of marriage, they raised a granddaughter from age six days, & later adopted her as their own, (Mom of T.L.T.). They were married 45 years, 3 months & 14 days when her husband Corbin Sr. passed away. Emma never intended to re-marry & lived another 22 yrs., 10 mo. & 17 days.
She told me that she once worked in a factory named Leshner's, in east Hamilton, Ohio. I don't know what exactly what she did there, or how long she worked there, but that her husband, (my Dad), & their adult children..Bea, Juanita, Don & Corbin Jr., all worked there some time or another.
She owned & ran her own restaurant. She was on the corner, directly across the street from Jefferson Elementary School, built in 1955. The school principal came over & asked her to not serve the students at lunch time, that it wasn't good for the school. She told him that she wasn't turning anyone away that wanted to eat at her restaurant, that she had a legal business & invited him & the school staff to stop in for homemade cooking anytime during business hours. After a year, she closed it down & we moved to College Corner, Ohio, just literally a step from Indiana, where she bought an old bank building & made a 5 & 10 store out of it. She sold it after a year & moved back to Hamilton, OH. There, she opened "The Sewing Shop." That's what she loved doing best & made a living by it. Dad was sick with Black Lung, permanently disabled. She was much a great success. The town's people knew her kind personality & her amazing sewing talents. She did business with the local police & sheriff departments, the elite & the not so elite. She sewed for a variety of businesses. She retired after 15 years as a Seamstress at age 62 when she found out that her doctor told her she had Cancer & by the looks of it, she's had it the last 11 years. After eight major surgeries in 3 years, her doctor told her, she had a maximum of three years to live. With a lot of suffering, she lived another 22+ years. She died at Age: 87 yrs. 8 mo. & 14 days with Pancreatic Cancer.
As her Mother did, my Mom dipped snuff, (a fine powdered tobacco), since she was five years of age, as a result to her Cancer.
In her late 70's, she was a door-to-door Avon Representative for nearly 3 years. She loved selling Avon Products & made the President's Club for two consecutive years. She said she wished she knew of Avon sooner, that she would have made a living by it.
Her favorite TV shows were Gunsmoke, Bonanza, Maveric, The Lawrence Welk Show, The Price Is Right, Wheel of Fortune & The Bob Braun Show. Her favorite actor was Gene Autry.
NOTE: Not yet found on Find A Grave, is her eldest child & daughter, Beatrice Marie (Pennington), Jervis, age, 81. Born: Fri., 2-29-1924 (Leap year).
