She was preparing to celebrate a friend's birthday when she suffered a brain aneurysm. She died August 2 at University Hospital - Corryville.
She and her twin sister Cynthia Shorr were born in Manhattan to Emmanuel and Frieda Lewin. Their half-brother, Robert Simon, was 17 years their senior. Their father was a lawyer.
She attended the University of Michigan and received her undergraduate degree from Hunter College in Manhattan.
Her brother was a founder of Crown Publishers in New York, where she worked as an editorial assistant.
She met her husband, Dr. Roy E. Albert, through his roommate. He was a doctor in the US Army. They married six months later in 1946. She followed him to his various stations, including Kentucky, Syracuse, NY, and Virginia, where they spent seven years, and New York.
After her youngest child was born, she went back to school to earn her master's degree in English from City College of New York. She taught in the New York City Public Schools for about 20 years.
Her husband transferred to Cincinnati to work with the University of Cincinnati's Medical Environmental Research program.
She taught freshman English as an adjunct instructor. She also worked with reading students at Withrow High School.
Her husband died previously.
Along with her daughter Lucy Bermingham of New York, and twin sister; survivors include her son, Dr. Daniel Albert of New Hampshire; daughters Julie Albert and Elizabeth Albert, both of New York; companion Saul Schach of Cincinnati; and six grandchildren.
A celebration of her life was at 2 pm Saturday at Cedars of Lebanon Chapel in Spring Grove Cemetery, Spring Grove Village.
Gwen Mooney Funeral Home, Spring Grove Village handled arrangements.
