Agnes Ellen (Wright) Bates came to Fellsburg, Edwards County, Kansas with her mother and sister after the untimely death of her father. After Agnes was graduated from Fellsburg High School she taught in several elementary schools in Kansas and then worked at the Fellsburg Bank. On February 20, 1932 she married Dr. Chester Alexander Bates in Sawyer, Pratt County, Kansas. The couple lived in Trousdale, Edwards County, Kansas for many years before moving to Lewis, Edwards County, Kansas where Agnes was active in the Methodist Church and served as City Librarian.
