Her father, Giovanni Cina and her mother's maiden name was Vincenza. Her husband, Antonino Abbagnato (1853-1905) died of pneumonia, was a grower and grafter of new types of fruit. They had 8 children all born in Mondello, a town in Palermo. Immediately after the death of Antonino the family, led by the oldest son Samuel, came to Aurora first in 1905 (Samuel, Emma and Josephine) then in 1907 (Magdalena, Florence, John, Steve, Tony and Jennie). "From the Biwabik Times" Note: "Mrs. Madeline Abbanat died Monday Aurora- Mrs. Madeline Abbanat, 96, long-time resident of Aurora, died Monday afternoon at the Johnson Nursing Home in Biwabik, where she had been a patient for 22 months. She was born Nov. 9, 1865, in Palermo, Italy, and came to this country and to Aurora 55 years ago. She was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Survivors include four sons, Sam of Virginia, John and Steve, both of Sacramento, Calif., and Anthony of Cleveland, Ohio; three daughters, Mrs. Jennie Colletti of Aurora, Mrs. Florence Harch of Ottumwa, Iowa, and Mrs. Josephine Robinson of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; 20 grandchildren, including State Representative Fred Cina of Aurora; 35 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. Emma Cina, preceded her in death Oct. 31, 1961. Funeral services will be held Friday at 8:30 a.m. at the Moeglein Funeral Home in Aurora and at 9 a.m.at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. The Rev. Fr. Steven Savinshek will officiate. Internment will take place in Forest Hill Cemetery. The rosary will be prayed Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. The family prefers memorials."
