DAVIS PIONEER DIES AT HOME
Layton, November 23 – George Pilling Adams, 82, prominent pioneer rancher of Davis county, died at his residence in Layton at one a.m. today, of ailments incident to age.
Mr. Adams was born Jan. 1, 1857, in Layton, a son of George W. and Mary Ann Pilling Adams. He attended Kaysville public schools, and took an active part in athletics and hunting.
He worked on his father's farm until he married Ann Eliza Forbes, Dec., 30 , 1876, in Uintah. The couple then moved to "the range," the territory comprising much of northern Davis county, where they homesteaded.
Mr. Adams was prominent in public life, having served as a school trustee. He was a ward teacher in the L.D.S. church, and was long active in church affairs.
He was one of the founders of the Adams Brothers pond, which is now a part of the Kay's creek irrigation system. He was for many years president of the Adams & Sons Co., general mercantile business, which his father organized in 1890.
Mrs. Adams died last August 3.
Surviving are the following children: Archie H. Adams, Dan Adams, Mrs. Mary H. O'Brien, Mrs. George L. Talbot, Mrs. M. P. Whiteside, Mrs Shirley Heywood, Mrs. J. Morris Whitesides, all of Layton; Mrs. William King of Kaysville. There are 53 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren, and the following brothers and sisters: M. F. Adams and Andy W. Adams, of Layton; Mrs. Margaret Hodson, Ogden; Catherine Whitesides and Mrs. Heber Carlos Botts, Burley, Idaho. Funeral arrangements are under direction of the Aultorest mortuary.
