John Day was the oldest child born to Henderson Day and Ida Gillaspie. By 1910 the family had left Nebraska and settled in Grant County, Oklahoma. John completed the 8th grade and began a life of farming raising wheat and milo crops. Following the death of his first wife, John married Mamie Alcorn and together they would raise two daughters (both living). During the early 1950's John and Mamie managed the Grant County Poor Farm. He retired from farming and rented a home in Pond Creek where he raised chickens, enjoyed tending his garden, fishing and watching "wrasslin" on TV. With failing health he and Mamie eventually moved to Enid. John was a gentle man with strong ties to the local Protestant church and was active in the local IOOF. John died of a stroke at the age of 87.
