Richard W. Allen, 82, of Decatur, passed away on Thursday (February 16, 2006) at his residence. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2006, at Graceland/ Fairlawn Funeral Home with Reverend John Younker officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to DMH Hospice and Cancer Care Specialists. Condolences may also be expressed online at www.gracelandfairlawn.com. Richard was born on September 24, 1923, in Bethany, IL, the son of Forrest G. and Helen (Willis) Allen. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy during WWII. Richard married Esther (Day) Allen on January 31, 1945. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and the Sheet Metal Workers Union # 218, retiring in 1989. Surviving are his wife of 61 years; son Stephen R. Allen and wife Cathy of Thousand Oaks, CA; son Mark P. Allen of Decatur; daughter Kathy Gadberry of LaGrange, KY; daughter Nora Watters and husband Rick of Decatur; daughter-in-law Kathy Allen of Mt. Zion; sister Erma Marmoll of Glen Ellyn, IL; grandchildren Michelle Gadberry, Charles Gadberry, Gary Young, Leslie Allen, Christopher Allen, Richard Allen, Stacy Pygott, Brandy Short, Johnathan Watters, Kendall Watters and Wendy Taylor; eleven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Lester and Ernie and one beloved son, Randy.
