Mrs. Gertrude Backes, 85, of Linn died early Tuesday morning at Linn Manor Rest Home. She had been ill for two years. She was born May 20, 1877 at Frankenstein, the daughter of Joseph and Frances Samson.

She was married in 1898 at Loose Creek to Frank Backes. He died November 14, 1953.

Survivors include three sons, Joseph, Rudolph and Paul, all of Bonnots Mill; four daughters, Mrs. Ray Huesgen of Marshall, Mrs. Mary Boland of Beaufort, Mrs. Julia Morton and Mrs. Martha Grubaugh of St. Louis. 34 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren, and three sisters, Mrs. Joe Conrady of Windthorst, Texas, Mrs. Chris Schmitz of Bonnots Mill, and Mrs. Adolph Kremer of Bonnots Mill.

Mrs. Backes was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Loose Creek and of the Married Ladies Sodality.

Funeral services will be at 10 o'clock Thursday at Loose Creek Catholic church, with Rev. A.J. Hoegen officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
